In 2005, the Bristol Homeopathic Hospital surveyed 6,500 patients with diverse complaints over six years, 70% reported improvement in their symptoms and well-being for conditions that had not responded to conventional treatment. And in 2006 the Health Technology Assessment report on Effectiveness, Cost-effectiveness and Appropriateness of homeopathy was compiled on behalf of the Swiss Federal Office for Public Health (BAG). Published in English in late 2011, it represents the most comprehensive evaluation of homeopahty ever written and affirms that homeopathic treatment is safe, effective and cost-effective, and that homeopathic treatment should be reimbursed by Switzerland’s national health insurance program.
How healthy are chronically ill patients after eight years of homeopathic treatment? – Results from a long term observational study “Patients who seek homeopathic treatment are likely to improve considerably. These effects persist for as long as 8 years” (Witt et al; BMC Public Health. 2008; 8: 415)
Homeopathy for epidemic diseases Cuba & Brazil:
Homeopathy results in dramatic reduction in Leptospirosis infection in Cuba
Above is an interview with Dr Gustavo Bracho about the place of homeopathy in the Cuban health system, his work into methods of epidemic prevention at the prestigious Finlay Institute and the potential of homeopathy to address the challenge of epidemics in the developing world.
Bracho G, Varela E, Fernández R, et al:Large-scale application of highly-diluted bacteria for Leptospirosis epidemic control. Homeopathy 2010; 99: 156–166.
A report of the largest study of homeopathy ever undertaken, based on data from over 11 million people (the entire population of Cuba), published in the journal Homeopathy. Leptospirosis (also known as Weil’s Disease) is an infectious disease carried by rats and caused by bacteria called spirochetes. People contract the disease through contact with contaminated water. Leptospirosis occurs worldwide, but it is most common in the tropics during periods of heavy rain.
In Cuba, Leptospirosis is recorded by an efficient national surveillance programme. Its incidence correlates closely with heavy rainfall and subsequent flooding. In late 2007, in response to a developing epidemic, and with only enough vaccine to treat 15,000 high-risk people, the government decided to treat the entire population of the region, over one year of age, with a homeopathic medicine. This was prepared from the inactivated causative organism provided by the Cuban National Vaccine Institute. The homeopathic medicine was given to the 2.3 million population of the provinces usually worst affected. Within a few weeks the number of cases had fallen from 38 to 4 cases per 100,000 per week, significantly fewer than the historically-based forecast for those weeks of the year. The 8.8 million population of the other provinces did not receive homeopathic treatment and the incidence was as forecast. The effect appeared to be sustained: there was an 84% reduction in infection in the treated region in the following year (2008) when, for the first time, incidence did not correlate with rainfall. In the same period, incidence in the untreated region increased by 22%.
Macae in Brazil uses Homeopathy to prevent Dengue Fever
The Town of Macaé in Brazil is a pioneer in the use of homeopathy in dengue. Distribution is via health clinics, bus terminals, schools and health workers’ visits to the districts. Homeopathy reduced the infection rate from Dengue Fever significantly… The Secretary of Health adopts various strategies to combat dengue, which has contributed to the reduction of mortality in the county. Since 2007, an innovative action, homeopathy is used for specific actions in the districts as a precautionary measure to avoid complications of diseases. According to the coordination of Public Health with the use of homeopathy against dengue, there is a significant reduction in the number of cases of the disease. “The incidence in Macaé, in 2008, fell by 71% compared to 2007, while in the North Fluminense, Macaé which is a part, had an increase of 273%, and the state of Rio de Janeiro was increase of 315%“ says the doctor and coordinator of Community Health, Laila Nunes. The homeopathic remedy is distributed free of charge to people at clinics and at strategic points in the city, such as bus terminals, downtown, schools and neighborhoods in stock.
In the study of eczema (dermatitis), there have been 3 good clinical studies published. Keil and colleagues from the Institute for Social Medicine, Epidemiology, and Health Economics in Berlin, Germany studied 118 children suffering from atopic eczema. 54 children were treated with homeopathic medicine and 64 children were treated with conventional dermatology drugs… improvement of eczema as observed by physicians was significantly greater in the homeopathic group (Keil T, et.al. Complement Ther Med. 2008: Feb; 16(1): 15-21.)
In Japan, Itamura and Hosoya studied 17 patients with intractable atopic dermatitis. These patients had previously failed conventional dermatological drug therapy. They were then treated with individualized homeopathic medical therapy, in addition to conventional dermatology therapy… 1 patient cleared completely, 7 patients partially cleared (=80% better), and 9 patients partially cleared (=50% better). Importantly, 5 of 17 patients (29%) were able to stop the use of topical steroid ointments. (Itamura R, Hosoya R. Homeopathy. 2003: 92; 108-114.)
In an observational study, Witt and colleagues studied 225 children with atopic eczema. The children were treated with homeopathic medicine and were allowed to also use conventional dermatology drugs. They were followed for 24 months. The severity of eczema in these patients improved and the changes in severity assessment were of large effect size. Reductions in the use of conventional dermatology drugs were observed. Homeopathy for Ear infections:
Homeopathic treatment for ear infections is superior to antibiotic treatment and placebo
A recent meta-analysis of studies published in JAMA looking at the use of antibiotics for ear infections vs. the watch and wait approach (no treatment) found that the treatment group improved slightly, but the improvements were offset by side effects such as rash and diarrhea. This meta-analysis is scientific proof that no treatment at all is better than antibiotic treatment for ear infections. Superior to no treatment at all is homeopathic treatment. Homeopathy is natural, never has side effects, and is completely safe. Scientific studies have proven that homeopathic treatment is superior to both antibiotic treatment and no treatment at all. A comparative study on outcome in the primary care setting
This study finds homeopathy to be more effective than conventional medicine for the treatment of childhood ear infections (BMC Complement Altern Med. 2007; 7: 7).
Another study concludes that homeopathy should be the first line treatment for acute otitis media in children. This study compared treatment by a homeopath with conventional treatment for acute ear infections in children. Out of 103 children in the homeopathy group only 5 needed antibiotics. The children receiving homeopathy had faster pain relief during the initial infection and fewer ear infections over the following year. The results found that median duration of pain during acute otitis media (middle ear infection) was 2 days in the homeopathy group; 3 days in conventional care group. 70.7% of the homeopathy group had no recurrence over the following year, compared with 56.5% of conventional care group. Although many studies have been conducted on the role of alternative medicine in the treatment of cancer, only a few reports have been published regarding the total regression of malignant tumors. At the PBH Research Foundation (PBHRF), two of the authors have used homoeopathic therapy to treat many patients with various malignant tumors. The objective of the present study was to have their treatment procedures evaluated and validated by the United States (US) National Cancer Institute (NCI) Best Case Series (BCS) Program. Lung and oesophageal carcinoma patients were treated with homoeopathic remedies at the PBHRF according to Banerji’s protocol until there was complete regression of the tumors. Case records including pathology and radiology reports for 14 patients were submitted for review by the US NCI BCS Program. Four of these cases had an independent confirmation of the diagnosis and radiographic response and were accepted as sufficient information for the NCI to initiate further investigation. These four cases are presented in detail in this report along with follow-up and outcome information. This study describes the process and outcome of a selected case series review through the NCI BCS Program. The results of the review were deemed to be sufficient to warrant NCI-initiated prospective research follow-up in the form of an observational study.
Homeopathy can kill breast cancer cells
The February issue of the International Journal of Oncology has a paper on the “Cytotoxic effects of ultra-diluted remedies on breast cancer cells” which describes benefits from remedies for breast cancer, but without the side effects of conventional cancer treatments. It is also posted in the National Institutes of Health’s pages (Int J Oncol. 2010 Feb;36(2):395-403).
Exploring the Research on Homeopathic Treatment for Fibromyalgia
Fibromyalgia is a chronic ailment without a known cause and without a safe, effective conventional medical treatment. However, the three to six million Americans who suffer with fibromyalgia will be pleased to know that several studies published in leading medical journals have found outstanding results from homeopathic treatment.
Homeopathy as replacement to antibiotics in the case of Escherichia coli diarrhoea in neonatal piglets
Results: Piglets in the placebo group had over six times more diarrhoea than piglets treated with Coli 30K. The diarrhoea seemed to be less severe in the homeopathically treated litters, there was less transmission and duration appeared shorter.

Conclusions: A clear difference between the reported short-term reactions of healthy subjects towards Aconitum napellus C30 and towards placebo was shown.
Scientific understanding of how homeopathy works:
Adaptive network nanomedicine: an integrated model for homeopathic medicine
byIris R. Bell1-4 and Gary E. Schwartz2,4, published in Frontiers in Bioscience S5, 685-708, January 1, 2013
This paper presents an evidence-based model for the nature and mode of action of homeopathic remedies. Recent studies reveal that homeopathic remedies contain nanoparticles (NPs) of source materials formed by “top-down” mechanical grinding inlactose and/or succussion (forceful agitation) in ethanolic solutions. Silica nanostructures formed during succussions in glassand/or biosynthesized by specific plant extract tinctures also may acquire and convey epitaxial information from remedy source materials into higher potencies. NPs have enhanced bioavailability, adsorptive capabilities, adjuvant reactivity, electromagnetic and quantum properties compared with their bulk forms. NPs induce adaptive changes in the organism at nontoxic doses (hormesis), serving as salient, low level danger signals to the biological stress response network. Activation of stress response effectors, including heat shock proteins, inflammasomes, cytokines and neuroendocrine pathways, initiate beneficial compensatory reactions across the interconnected networks of the organism as a complex adaptive system. Homeopathic remedies act by stimulating hormetic adaptive rather than conventional pharmacological effects. Updating terminology from “homeopathy” to “adaptive network nanomedicine” reflects the integration of this historical but controversial medical system with modern scientific findings. http://www.bioscience.org/2013/v5s/af/400/list.htm
A University of Conneticut Debate: Homeopathy: Great Medicine or Pseudoscience?
Andre Saine NC (Canadian Academy for Homeopathy)
Steven Novella MD (Yale)
Homeopathy is currently used by some 500 million people worldwide, making it the second most popular form of alternative medicine – according to the World Health Organisation. Increasingly, patients are asking about this medical option. That fact, together and with the recent discovery that homeopathic medicines contain nanoparticles, has lead to increased interest in homeopathy as a nanomedicine. This debate will examine the scientific and clinical facts about homeopathy. http://mediasite.uchc.edu/mediasite41/Play/f45177db9279460797ffe70714a3f5611d
Homeopathy and the science of high dilutions: when to believe the unbelievable
Paolo Bellavite, Lucietta Betti International Journal of High Dilution Research, Home > Vol 11, No 40 (2012) > Bellavite
Quite often, scientific “dogmas” have been disrupted by new evidence, or previously dismissed phenomena have gained importance in the light of a new conceptual framework. The unusual properties of high dilutions/dynamizations, which merit further investigation, are potentially relevant not just to homeopathic pharmaceutical science, but also to agriculture (“agrohomeopathy”), environmental sciences and, in general, to the future of mankind”. Towards a Better Understanding of Homeopathy, article by Dr Peter Kay
“Homeopathy has been rejected by many on the grounds that mechanistic investigations into homeopathic remediation are limited and lack scientific credibility. The results of recent molecular genetic studies are now beginning to shed light on future approaches to understanding how highly diluted substances may promote their beneficial effects”.Nobel Prize winner reports effects of homeopathic dilutions
In a recent study Professor Luc Montagnier, a French virologist who co-discovered HIV and who won the Nobel Prize in 2008, reports the results of a series of rigorous experiments investigating the electromagnetic properties of highly-diluted biological samples.
Nobel Prize Winner Escapes ‘Intellectual Terror’ to Pursue Homeopathic Research in China
In a move that has significant implications for the understanding of how homeopathy works, virologist and Nobel laureate Luc Montagnier has left France to pursue his high dilution research in China. This has shocked many from the scientific community who still hold that homeopathy’s ‘memory of water’ concept is implausible. But Montagnier, who has already won a Nobel prize for his joint research into AIDS, no longer has to be concerned about losing his scientific credibility. Luc Montagnier made the following statement for homeopathy and homeopathic doses in this interview:
“I can’t say that homeopathy is right in everything. What I can say now is that the high dilutions are right. High dilutions of something are not nothing. They are water structures which mimic the original molecules. I have applied for funding from other sources, but I have been turned down. There is a kind of fear around this topic in Europe. I am told that some people have reproduced Benveniste’s results, but they are afraid to publish it because of the intellectual terror from people who don’t understand it.”
Further, Luc Montagnier refers to Jacques Benveniste, a French physician/scientist who conducted research on homeopathic doses, as a “modern Galileo.” More about Luc Montagnier’s work here:
Another Nobel Prize Winner Speaks Out For Homeopathy
Nobel Prize winner Brian Josephson PhD, an emeritus professor at Cambridge University, England has joined Luc Montagnier in making strong statements in favour of homeopathy. In the New Scientist he writes:
“Regarding your comments on claims made for homeopathy: criticisms centered around the vanishingly small number of solute molecules present in a solution after it has been repeatedly diluted are beside the point, since advocates of homeopathic remedies attribute their effects not to molecules present in the water, but to modifications of the water’s structure.
Simple-minded analysis may suggest that water, being a fluid, cannot have a structure of the kind that such a picture would demand. But cases such as that of liquid crystals, which while flowing like an ordinary fluid can maintain an ordered structure over macroscopic distances, show the limitations of such ways of thinking. There have not, to the best of my knowledge, been any refutations of homeopathy that remain valid after this particular point is taken into account.
A related topic is the phenomenon, claimed by Jacques Benveniste’s colleague Yolène Thomas and by others to be well established experimentally, known as “memory of water.” If valid, this would be of greater significance than homeopathy itself, and it attests to the limited vision of the modern scientific community that, far from hastening to test such claims, the only response has been to dismiss them out of hand” … more
Interviews with A Top Research Scientist in Homeopathy- Dr. Iris Bell
Dr. Bell is currently Professor of Psychiatry, Psychology, Medicine, Family & Community Medicine, and Public Health as well as Director of Research for the Program in Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona College of Medicine. In these interviews, she highlights the key differences between the “properties” of homeopathic medicine and conventional medicine. The evidence coming from multiple laboratories, multiple technologies and multiple investigators overwhelming demonstrates that homeopathy demonstrates biological activity.
Smell is a Quantum Physics Phenomenon: Implications for Homeopathy
The vibration theory of olfaction focuses on the subatomic level of quantum physics. It suggests that each molecule carries its scent in the sum of vibrations of all the atoms in a molecule. Therefore, our olfactory sense distinguishes between subatomic vibrations. Since it now appears likely that the sense of smell is produced at the subatomic level, there is little to interfere with homeopathy’s claim to effectiveness.
Blinded by Science by Matther Silverstone
“Water changes its vibrational frequency to that of any substance that it comes into contact with. If you take all of the chemical substance out of the water it does not matter if there are no chemical atoms left, the water will have changed its vibrational frequency to that of the chemical. It is this vibration that the body reacts to. It works on the principles of physics and not biochemistry.”
Proof for Homeopathy, by John Benneth.
“Can serially agitated high dilutes (SADs), which are the constituent solutions used in homeopathic remedies, be identified from their liquid vehicles? Although it does not conclusively rebut the placebo accusation, if we can see a difference in SADs within the water from whence they came, this in itself suggests that there are physical attributes in homeopathic medicine that may affect living organisms” … more
